Nike Skateboarding (abbreviated Nike SB) was launched in March of 2002. Their initial launch included four sneakers in their “Artist Series,” designed by skaters Gino Iannucci, Richard Mulder, Reese Forbes, and Danny Supa. Since 2002, Nike SB has grown massively in popularity. Nike SB Dunks, the backbone of Nike SB, are now collected and worn by skateboarders and non-skateboarders alike. The can be found primarily in exclusive skate shops and in select sneaker shops around the globe.
SB Dunks differ from regular Nike Dunks in several ways. In order to accommodate the needs of skateboarders, Nike beefed up the cushioning in their SB line. They used Zoom Air insoles in their SBs which would provide the low center of gravity necessary when skateboarding. They also added extra padding around the ankle and tongue and used more robust materials than on typical Dunks. Finally, SB Dunks have double or triple stitching, as is typical of skateboarding shoes.
In the relatively brief period that Nike Skateboarding has been in existence, its popularity has grown incredibly. Many people have a large portion of their collection dedicated to SB Dunks, or collect only SB Dunks. There have been countless hit SB Dunks as well as important collaborations between Nike and other companies in creating their sneakers. Some important SB Dunks include Supremes, Supas, Forbes, Tiffanys, Calis, Stussys, and many more.
Here is a List and Pics of all Dunks Past and Present:
